Go Green With a (Live) Stream!

Streaming live shows is becoming a more common phenomena. Did you realize it has an amazing ecological benefit? No matter if you have a local, regional or national (or, think big: International) meeting, conference or seminar, not only will you, and possibly a staff, travel to the presentation site, the attendees have to get there as well. Short of walking or biking, it follows that forms of transportation that will produce an amount of green house gasses. Solution: You remain local to your office/home office, and invite your clients and/or prospects to attend from their location of choice. You’ve just reduced your carbon footprint dramatically, yet still have the opportunity to share you content to others. Using this method does have some drawbacks: The people participating aren’t sitting next to each other, taking breaks with each other, or having lunch together. Think of all the sidebar discussions you’ve had over the years, related to, or completely separate from the conference or presentation content, that were never anticipated? The connections made during those few short moments can lead to more business, more connections and new markets. Your challenge here is to ensure your virtual audience has a close to that experience while you’re online. That’s a topic of another post, but it’s always a part of your planning, and will involve selecting the right tool for the right outcome. It’s all about the initial requirements being well defined before you get too far into the process of doing live streamed events or shows. And don’t forget that you need to pick the appropriate back drop to your stream for when you go live. If you’re using a home office, make sure you stand where the camera is going to be (all of them if you’ll be using more than one) and view the setting as if you were one of your audience. If the book shelf organized? Will there be a window in the frame? Will the planned time of day for the show have effective lighting? Are there distracting components of the view that will get the audience’s brain multi-tasking, therefore not paying attention to your delivery? Making sure you’ve not only got great content, but a set of surroundings that facilitates the clean delivery in every place you work from is your job to do as well in your set up. Take away: Go green, do it with a live stream!
